Frem at the Order of Engineers: To Harness AI and Develop Its Capabilities for the Service of Humanity

MP Neemat Frem, Chairman of Project Watan’s Executive Board, was the guest of honor at the Mechanical Week 2025: Panels & Exhibition, organized by the Order of Engineers and Architects (OEA) at its headquarters in Beirut, under the presidency of Eng. Fadi Hanna. The event was attended by a large number of the order’s members and engineers.

In his speech, Frem emphasized his belief that Lebanon’s creativity lies in its engineers, whom he called his “colleagues.”

“If we managed public affairs exactly as we draft our engineering plans, Lebanon would be thriving,” he stated.

“When constructing buildings, we carefully consider every step we take rather than following whims, emotions, or the desires of project owners – knowing that engineers face numerous challenges in accommodating various stakeholders’ preferences,” he added. “However, we ultimately believe in technocracy and professionalism, in a governance system driven by experts and specialists rather than traditional politics. This is precisely what I sensed in the roadmap laid out by the president of the OEA, its council, and its members, whose numbers approach 70,000 engineers.”

Frem continued: “As engineers, we evolve and keep pace with time, bringing innovation and excellence to humanity. Today, humanity is experiencing an era of unprecedented and extraordinary transformations. For the first time in history, we are witnessing how engineers have succeeded in creating machines that surpass human intelligence, and how processing power – the immense computational and electronic capabilities achieved through artificial intelligence – has been harnessed. Even greater advancements are expected in the coming years, particularly with the emergence of artificial general intelligence (AGI), which will pose a major challenge to each of us: proving our relevance, value, and added contribution in our respective fields.”

He concluded: “Therefore, as engineers, we must prepare future generations to secure their place and role in the course of life. This is a tremendous challenge. We must learn to navigate this revolution and its magnitude through education, knowledge, and culture, as well as through the development and harnessing of AI capabilities in service of mankind and humanity.”
