Frem Meets Rahi, Calls for Presenting the Draft Negotiation Document to Parliament

The chairman of “Project Watan’s” Executive Board, MP Neemat Frem, called for “presenting the draft negotiation document to Parliament so that lawmakers can review its content and provide the necessary feedback.”

Speaking after his meeting with Maronite Patriarch Bechara Boutros Rahi in Bkerke, he stated: “If the provisions of the document are positive, we will endorse and celebrate them. However, if flaws are found, we will demand corrective measures to ensure the interests of all of Lebanon without exception.”

Frem added: “The content of this document is still unknown, which requires urgent and transparent disclosure. As MPs, we bear the responsibility of representing the Lebanese people. It is our duty to answer the questions of the citizens who elected us. Thus, on behalf of the Lebanese people, we demand full disclosure of the negotiation document’s details.”

“We hope and pray for a ceasefire to be reached as soon as possible and for this agreement to serve as a cornerstone of goodwill for Lebanon. We envision it as a long-term agreement that ends the ongoing war and fortifies Lebanon against any future conflicts,” he continued.

Frem revealed that he also discussed with the Patriarch the situation of displaced persons, “whom we consider a shared responsibility among all Lebanese.” He said: “The Lebanese have proven their solidarity during crises, but we must do more to alleviate the suffering of the displaced and ensure their continuity under these difficult circumstances, especially if the war persists. All of this must be accomplished while preserving civil peace. With increasing burdens, we must be patient and wise to avoid slipping into dangerous situations.”

The topic of the post-war and reconstruction phase was also raised during the meeting. “When all Lebanese return under the umbrella of the Lebanese State, the latter will be able to initiate reconstruction and support those affected through its budget,” Frem explained. “Therefore, commitment to the state and its institutions must be the fundamental condition and guarantee for reconstruction.”

“As for the upcoming budget, it must be founded on the pillars of economic recovery and equitable spending, directly linked to Lebanon’s ability to achieve economic recovery. We must prioritize the nation’s interests above any other consideration and draft a budget that balances people’s needs with the capacity to achieve financial sustainability,” he concluded.
