Frem Takes a Firm Stance: We Refuse to Be a Substitute for the Lost

MP Neemat Frem posted on his X account: “With the escalation of the war in Gaza and military operations in Yemen, and with the U.S. negotiation equation with Iran oscillating between maximum pressure and military confrontation, we have grown accustomed to our southern borders igniting – serving as fuel or as a price paid by the axes to protect what they deem more valuable.

Amid this explosive regional scene and growing fears that the south could slide into a confrontation that would push Lebanon backward and extinguish hope, there is no room for hesitation or ambiguity. As a people, as representatives of the people, and as officials in power, we must be clear and resolute in our stance: official Lebanon is represented by the President of the Republic. Moreover, given the Prime Minister’s commitment and the ministerial statement affirming the state’s monopoly on weapons, Lebanon today stands outside the axis.

As the U.S. position on Iran takes its final shape – whether by forcing the abandonment of the nuclear project and fundamentally altering its approach or by heading toward direct military confrontation – we refuse to be a substitute for the lost.”
