Frem: the danger is too great for the entity of Lebanon

The election of the president is not a Christian – Christian problem, but a regional one

The visit of the secretary of the Vatican, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, carried a lot of political messages, albeit of a pastoral nature, and one of the most important messages addressed to Christians was urging them to elect a president of the Republic as soon as possible to restore the sectarian and constitutional balance in light of the changes that will be witnessed in the Middle East region. He also called on the church in Lebanon to keep the message of "living together" alive and effective. He stressed that the absence of the Christian voice would undoubtedly make a difference.

MP Neemat Frem supported the warning expressed by the Vatican official, saying, in an interview with the "Akhbar al-Yawm" agency: the danger is very great for the entity of Lebanon, especially as some miss that the Lebanese entity is directly linked to the Christian presence, without this active and basic presence, this formula is regressing, considering that the communities interested in its continuation are keen on this active presence, as the Arab countries are aware of this.

In response to a question, Frem said that Parolin linked the Christian presence with the Lebanese entity, which is very important, but at the same time stressed the importance of living together.

And what is the fate of the presidential entitlement, which Parolin called for to be completed as soon as possible? Frem replied: I do not consider that the election of the president right now is only a Christian – Christian problem, but unfortunately the problem has become regional, saying: We have reached a stage where the country is open and its doors are legislated and the margin of action in the internal decision is very narrow, so the first thing the next president of the Republic should do is to create immunity against foreign interference.

Frem explained that "we are currently in a critical situation, but if the parties and internal forces are able to work together, there is a possibility of imposing a certain reality on the outside, and if we do not succeed, we have to wait for the outside to find a solution, but the countries concerned with the Lebanese file are not in a hurry to end the vacuum or other crises".
