Jumblatt Heads a PSP Delegation to Project Watan’s Headquarters Sayegh: We Are at a Critical Crossroads Frem: We Refuse to Let Lebanon Become a Commodity on the Negotiation Table

As part of the tour undertaken by the Progressive Socialist Party (PSP), a delegation headed by MP Taymour Jumblatt visited the headquarters of Project Watan in Dbayeh, where they met with the Chairman of its Executive Board, MP Neemat Frem, in the presence of the board members.

The PSP delegation included MPs Wael Abou Faour and Faisal Sayegh, Secretary-General Zafer Nasser, Political Council members Marwa Abi Farraj and Rena Hassanieh, as well as Jumblatt’s advisor Hussam Harb. Representing Project Watan were Mr. Hassan Husseini, Dr. Habib Malik, Dr. Assaad Eid, lawyer Antoine Kaljian, Riyad Solh, and Samer Arraj, in addition to several advisors.

Discussions focused on ways to strengthen the national safety net by enhancing communication among political forces and rationalizing political discourse, as well as reaffirming support for the President’s initiative through clear provisions and a unified Lebanese stance. Emphasis was also placed on adopting an open approach toward various parties, as well as on the importance of exchanging ideas and reinforcing ongoing cooperation with Project Watan.

Following the one-hour meeting, MP Faisal Sayegh stated, on behalf of the PSP, that the meeting was highly productive, given the shared positions aimed at preserving Lebanon and nipping strife in the bud. He also stressed the importance of upholding the positions of the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister regarding the ceasefire and withdrawal from occupied territories, alongside a commitment to key resolutions – particularly those related to the exclusivity of arms – which would pave the way toward a state where all citizens are equal under the Constitution and the law.

He added: “We are at an extremely dangerous crossroads, which requires the cooperation of all parties in the coming phase,” noting that the negotiations underway in Washington call for a transparent agenda and clear demands, while emphasizing that the Lebanese decision must remain in the hands of the Lebanese people and the Lebanese state.

For his part, MP Neemat Frem said after the meeting: “We sensed a high degree of convergence in vision and reaffirmed the importance of national unity at this sensitive juncture. Our ultimate goal is to restore Lebanon’s sovereign decision-making, so that it is not merely a paper or a commodity on the negotiation table, but rather an active party seated at the table and participating in shaping decisions.”

He further noted that the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister bear significant responsibilities, alongside the legitimate Lebanese state, and that they have chosen the right path – one that requires broad national backing.

Frem stressed that every Lebanese citizen, from all sects, belongs to this nation, and that addressing the concerns of all communities is the responsibility of the state at this stage. He added: “We support a ceasefire, the liberation of land, putting an end to the ongoing destruction, and the restoration of political, military, and security decision-making from any foreign state or axis.”

He concluded by expressing hope that this phase would bring opportunities for success, particularly in light of a new round of preparatory meetings and discussions being held in Washington at the ambassadorial level, and wished Lebanon every success.
