Martinos at Project Watan’s headquarters: A Partnership on the Path to Justice and State-Building

The candidate for the presidency of the Beirut Bar Association, lawyer Imad Martinos, visited the headquarters of Project Watan, where he met with the Chairman of its Executive Board, MP Neemat Frem, in the presence of board members.

Frem and Martinos discussed Project Watan’s vision and guiding principles, rooted in strengthening the values of freedom, justice, and genuine citizenship, and in establishing the rule of law – all within the framework of launching advanced reform initiatives that would positively impact state institutions and contribute to their reconstruction.

Frem wished Martinos success, praising his positive energy, legal expertise, and strong national and ethical values. He expressed hope that Martinos’ presence would help revive the spirit of unity among the Lebanese and renew the commitment to building a Lebanon that is more just and free.

For his part, Martinos expressed pride in the moral support he has received, affirming that Project Watan is committed and active in advancing the values of justice and the rule of law. He voiced his readiness to work side by side with all stakeholders to achieve the long-sought change, stressing the importance of collective effort in building halls of justice across the country.

Participants highlighted the vital role of the Bar Association as an influential driver of public life, stressing the urgent need to reform the judiciary and legal system, and to address pressing issues such as deteriorating prison conditions, the crises in the commercial registry and the banking sector, as well as the need to uphold integrity and transparency.

Frem noted that Project Watan seeks to leverage technology and professionalism to create an environment conducive to progress, adding that the project has prepared several studies and intends to collaborate with the Bar Association to turn them into laws and reform initiatives aimed at strengthening justice and embedding integrity in institutions, as part of a broader legislative package addressing various public issues.

In his intervention, Martinos emphasized his intent – if elected – to transform the Bar Association into a “workshop” for drafting and developing laws.

The meeting concluded by underscoring the Bar Association’s unifying role in championing just causes and its complementary role alongside the judiciary in building a future that meets the aspirations of the Lebanese people under a state of justice and the rule of law.
