Project Watan Calls for Commitment to Agreements and Caution Against Granting Free Pretexts to Israel

Project Watan’s Executive Board held its weekly meeting, chaired by MP Neemat Frem and attended by all members, to discuss the latest political and security developments in light of the current circumstances. The following statement was issued at the conclusion of the meeting:

  • Project Watan stresses that Lebanon must uphold the agreements signed in the aftermath of the war with Israel and fulfill its commitments before the international community in order to safeguard its credibility and its position in any upcoming negotiation process.

Project Watan also warns that Israel continues to seek pretexts and is working to portray Lebanon as the side breaching agreements. Ironically, boasting about the restoration of military capabilities and readiness for confrontation could turn into a free pretext granted to Israel to justify its violations and drag the country into another war.

In this context, Project Watan affirms that wisdom in decision-making does not contradict the right to reclaim land, emphasizing that Lebanon must be present at the table of the new Middle East negotiations – not one of the dishes served on that table.

  • The Executive Board underlines the importance of granting expatriates the right to vote for all 128 members of Parliament, as a means to preserve the state’s credibility toward its citizens abroad and to reinforce the principle of justice and equality in rights and duties.

The Board further considers that adopting the megacenter constitutes a fundamental step toward correcting the imbalance in the electoral process and ensuring its transparency and fairness – thereby restoring citizens’ trust in their institutions and contributing to the proper functioning of democratic life in Lebanon.
