Project Watan: People’s Representatives Have the Right to Be Informed and Vote on Any Agreement

“Project Watan’s” Executive Board held its weekly meeting, chaired by MP Neemat Frem and attended by all members, to discuss the latest developments. The following statement was issued afterward:

  • “Project Watan” congratulates the Lebanese on the occasion of Independence Day, which holds exceptional significance this year amidst the existential war Lebanon is facing. The attendees emphasized the necessity of ending this war in a manner that ushers in a new beginning for all parties. This is crucial to preserving Lebanon’s religious, cultural, and pluralistic diversity and, most importantly, to maintaining it as a country of political, sectarian, and cultural balance under the umbrella of the “nation of the message, freedoms, and openness.”
  • “Project Watan” reviewed the ongoing ceasefire negotiations between Hezbollah and the Israeli army and expressed concern that the leaked clauses fail to adequately protect Lebanon against potential future Israeli aggression. Moreover, the proposed terms do not address the post-war phase domestically, particularly regarding the fate of weapons or the handling of the massive displacement crisis amid the total destruction of certain areas. The participants underscored the right of the Lebanese people’s representatives to be informed and to vote on the terms of any potential agreement.
  • After examining reports estimating the war-related losses at billions of dollars, “Project Watan” emphasized that it would be impossible for the state to bear the costs of reconstruction without the support of Arab brothers and the international community. Accordingly, it is imperative to provide the necessary guarantees to rebuild state institutions with transparency and professionalism. This approach would ensure political, economic, and security stability, thereby restoring confidence in Lebanon and its people.
