Project Watan Welcomes MP Attieh’s Joining and Stresses the Need for Reform

Project Watan’s Executive Board held its weekly meeting, chaired by MP Neemat Frem, alongside MP Sajih Attieh, and attended by the members. After deliberating on the latest developments, the Board issued the following statement:

• The Executive Board welcomed MP Sajih Attieh’s joining Project Watan, commending his presence, experience, and role in public life, as well as the contribution he brings to the Project’s path, which is grounded in national, reform-oriented, and development-driven action.

• The Board addressed the resumption of the Rome negotiations, considering that the framework agreement represents a path that must, on the one hand, be approached with caution and, on the other, be accompanied by vigilance against turning Lebanon into a commodity to be traded at regional negotiating tables. The Board reaffirmed Project Watan’s commitment to preserving Lebanon as an entity by developing the state and its institutions, ultimately leading to the development of the system - not to changing borders. It also commended the position of the Lebanese delegation, which has insisted on halting Israeli attacks and working to secure a clear commitment to a full Israeli withdrawal.

• In light of the above, Project Watan stresses that, in parallel with the negotiating track, there is an urgent need to launch domestic executive initiatives that complement the strategic political objectives with reform objectives aimed at confronting the collapse and rebuilding the modern state. In this regard, the Board notes that 42 studies are now ready to support the recovery and revitalization of various sectors. More than 12 of these studies have already been translated into draft laws submitted to Parliament, while the remainder are in the process of being converted into legislative proposals.

• On the occasion of the sixth anniversary of the Beirut port explosion, the Board renewed its prayers for those who lost their lives, extended its condolences to their families, and expressed its solidarity with the injured and all those affected by this tragedy. It firmly calls for the full truth to be brought to light, justice to be served, and those responsible to be held accountable, in a way that ensures this national wound is finally brought to closure on the basis of truth and justice. The Board also emphasized the need to learn from what happened, improve the country’s operational framework and implement decrees to prevent similar disasters from occurring again.
